Introduction

There are many methods to measure the work, namely, time study, synthesis; predetermined motion time system (PMTS), analytical estimating, and activity sampling are some of the important ones. One of the most widely used methods is Time Study; and its commonest objective is to from a basis for financial incentive schemes. Therefore we will first try to get familiar with Time Study and in this session and in the next we will concentrate on Time Study procedure.

The application of techniques designed to establish the time for a qualified worker to carry out a specified job at a defined level of performance
To determine how long it should take to carry out.

Work measurement techniques:

There is a variety of work measurement techniques. The commonest are:
ü  Time Study
ü  Pre-determined Motion Time Systems
ü  Activity Sampling
ü  Analytical Estimating
ü  Synthesis data

ü  Manpower allocation
ü  Production planning & control
ü  Determine cost & incentive schemes
